Еxhibition "The Wave"
Yordan Kisyov is known on the Bulgarian and international art scene for his large-scale
paintings, presented through installations and unconventional visual forms.
He graduated in 1972 from the Art High School in Sofia in the class of Dimitar Arnaudov and
later monumental painting at the University of Veliko Tarnovo "St. St. Cyril and Methodius"
and to this day he participates in all national exhibitions in the country and
representative and collective exhibitions of the Union of Bulgarian Artists abroad.
He is the winner of the national award "Vladimir Dimitrov - The Master" for his contribution
to contemporary Bulgarian art.
Yordan Kisyov is part of the team of the Biennale of Contemporary Art - Plovdiv
and a member of the jury. In 2024, at the second edition of the Biennale of Contemporary
Art - Plovdiv, the installation "Between the Sky and the Water" was presented -
an endless picturesque overflow of colors and shapes in a mirror-constructed surface,
in which, looking, the viewer loses the horizon.
In the upcoming exhibition, the theme of water is present again, but this time presented in a
different state and dynamics.
The artist's inspirations are the result of studying Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa".
According to the author, the scale and power of the Wave, which is formed by the swirling wind
and tries to swallow the boats in its bottomless embrace, is also a metaphor for life.
A linear projection of the ups and downs, of the path and the encounter with the Sacred.
